Dawn Harris - Dream IT Project
Many of the middle school students I work with have a very limited knowledge of the variety of career choices that exist for them. They also tend to see a career as something they go to college for so they can “get one.”
The purpose of this website is to share my vision for a project I'd like to implement in the 8th grade Focus Computers class that I teach. This assignment was part of a Summer 2011 three course, nine credit, integrated graduate seminar which brought together a study of technology, teaching, and learning.
The project I propose involves using technology in an innovative way in my classroom in order to help students discover the depth and breadth of career opportunities available to them as well as the intricacies involved in the career path a person may take.
By using webcams, video recording and editing software, and collaborative word processing and presentation software, students will interview experts in career fields they are interested in, build a deeper understanding of careers, and be able to share this understanding with others.
